The common thread in all of this analysis activity is that the information is generally aging and moving rapidly toward the stale end of the spectrum. The data collected in non lean manufacturing companies are generally trailing indicators, meaning that they show what has already happened. Unless technology rapidly develops the Star Trek transporter, there is very little chance that anyone will be able to go back and correct the problems or issues that resulted in the particular set of results. The best that traditional businesses have been able to do so far is to carefully analyze the trailing indicators for root causes to the problems and then with the support of highly skilled engineers and analysts attempt to deploy countermeasures to alleviate the probability of reoccurrence in the future.
